Paris Hilton’s first night in jail went well
The heiress Paris Hilton had her first night in the jail. And her lawyer has said that she is doing well. Paris is placed in the solitary confinement at Los Angeles County jail. Hilton’s attorney Richard A. Hutton made this declaration after meeting Hilton. He said “She’s using this time to reflect on her life, to see what she can do to make the world better and hopefully, in my opinion, to change the attitudes that exist about her among many people.”
The 26 year old Hilton checked into the Century Regional Detention Facility in suburban Los Angeles just after 11:30 pm, Sunday. She will be spending 23 days in prison as of the punishment for recklessly driving with a suspended license.
Hilton surrendered after her astonishing appearance at the MTV Movie Awards in which she showed up in a strapless designer gown. Everyone present was amazed to see hr walking down the red carpet few hours before her jail sentence had to begin. Now Hilton has worn the orange jump suit which she was issued in jail. Hilton is housed in a special unit where she is spending 23 hours a day in a solitary cell, said Hutton.
Hutton claimed that “If she was an ordinary citizen she would have been placed in the general population. … She’d be living in a dorm with 30, 40, 50 other women and the time would pass pretty quick,” Hutton said. “She is really being punished because of her celebrity,” he added.
The Los Angeles county sheriff’s spokesperson Steve Whitmore said that “Hilton was easy to work with.” He added that “Her demeanor was helpful. She was focused; she was cooperative.”
At the time of surrender Hilton was accompanied by her mother. The two at first went to the Men’s Central Jail in downtown from where Hilton alone was taken to the women’s facility in Lynwood, where she was booked, fingerprinted, photographed, medically screened and issued an orange top and pants. After checking in Hilton was given her first meal: cereal, bread and juice.
The ‘Simple Life’ star was in the ‘special needs’ unit of the thirteen year old jail which is isolated from most of its 2200 inmates. This unit has 12 two person cells reserved for police officers, public officials, celebs and other high profile people. Hilton’s cell is composed of two bunks, a table, a sink, a toilet and a small window.
Hilton’s accommodation is better than that of the common people in the jail but still it is sparse for the heiress. Teresa Jones of Lancaster said that the jail is “so filthy, it’s worse than skid row.” She added “that place is awful. Life is easy compared to this.”
